With the growing national power of China and the rapid development of higher education, “Go to China, Study in China!” has become a choice made by more and more foreign students all around the world. Annas from Pakistan is working on his mechanical engineering PhD in Peking University. He says in China the development in scientific and technological research is rapid. Many parents he knows in Pakistan prefer to send their children studying in China. “The curriculum in Peking University is very good. Facilities are good and complete. They have the same level of research with western countries and cooperate with world’s top institutions. China is understood to have signed mutual recognition agreements on academic degrees with 42 countries and regions. By 2020, it will create 300 superior courses taught in English and 1000 superior courses taught in Chinese.
Jamilah is a student in Moi University of Kenya in her freshman year and soon she is going to study in Nanjing University of Science and Technology majoring in International Economics and Trade. When talking about the upcoming learning trip in China, this 19-year-old Kenyan girl was excited: “I’m really looking forward to go and study in China. I was very excited when I got the bursary. According to the “Charges for Foreign Students Studying in China at Their Own Expenses” announced by Ministry of Education, the tuition charged by Chinese universities to foreign undergraduate students is 14,000 – 26,000RMB/year on average. In stark contrast, the tuition charged by British universities to international students is 13,000 pounds/year, equivalent to 120,000RMB/year.
In addition, China offers lavish bursaries of various types for foreign students, including Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, local government scholarships, college-level scholarships and enterprise scholarships. In 2015 there are 40,600 students coming from 182 countries received Chinese Government Scholarship in their study in China, accounting for 10.21% of total foreign students in China. The highest funding levels for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students are separately 66,200 RMB/year, 79,200 RMB/year and 99,800 RMB/year.
Coming from South Korea, Kwon Yong Bum is learning Chinese in Tsinghua University, Department of Chinese. He explained why he decided coming to China and learning Chinese that, if one wants to find a good job in South Korea, a good command of Chinese would be a big advantage. Kwon Yong Bum says, many Korean companies need senior management personnel who knows Chinese. So he decided to come China and learn Chinese after graduating from high school. In the beginning he only wanted to learned Chinese in Tsinghua University for two years and continue his university in South Korea. But he changed his mind when arrived in China and decided to finish his undergraduate courses in Tsinghua University, before going back to South Korea for work.
A good command of Chinese is becoming a major advantage in competition for jobs among multinational corporations. It is believed that there are more than 100,000 foreigner top executives in multinational corporations investing in China. Their Chinese proficiency is influencing their performance and development. Outbound tourism made by Chinese citizens exceeds ten millions person-time every year. Overseas tour guide who is proficient in Chinese could make a very good money versus others.

China’s Ministry of Education is now promoting the development of foreign students Work-Study Program and formulating regulations for social practice, legalizing international students’ works in China. In addition, relevant authorities are studying to open the job market and internship market for international students after their graduation, so that foreign students can choose freely whether to stay in China or return home after graduation. This is a real benefit for them.
